My Road to Endorphin
by Stephanie Bengs

I started playing soccer at the age of 4 and haven’t stopped fitness and exercise since. I grew up in a small town in South Dakota so played a variety of sports year-round. Then I was blessed with the opportunity to play collegiate soccer. I guess exercise has always been a huge part of my life. It keeps me sane, it gives me strength, it is empowering, and it gives a joy that I can’t explain.

I have to thank one of my best friends, Candace Daughtery, for introducing me to Endorphin. She was that crazy girl (haha she knows I love her) who always talked about how great her gym was. At that point in my life I had been to various gyms throughout the years. I felt that I was doing just fine on my own, running, online workouts, and home workout videos. She encouraged me to come with her for about a year, and finally I agreed. My first class was boxing with Nick Spinosa. I showed up 15mins early, and I was the only one there. I was feeling so out of place and wondering if I got the time wrong then shortly before class started all the Endorphiners arrived. Although I had never boxed before, it was such a great time, a challenging workout, and I left feeling like a bad ass! I loved every minute of it. I took a few more classes that week, Kinesis with Andrew, yoga with Christa Schwind, and immediately was hooked! I signed up for an Unlimited membership and have been a member for a year and a half. I still find myself being pushed beyond my limits, sore the next day, and never bored. I have become that crazy girl in love with her gym!

Although fitness and exercise has never been a struggle for me (it actually has always been a passion of mine).  We all have ups and downs in life and challenges to defeat in one way or another. I came to Endorphin at a time in my life when I felt defeated. Everything I knew as normal had changed in an instant. Endorphin not only offered me a gym to take out frustration and get a good workout, it also provided me a community of dedicated people giving each workout their all. Endorphin continues to push me farther and farther, create new friendships, find inspiration, and have fun! I have enjoyed the post-class “Boxing, Bitches and Beers”, Thursday night LoHi happy hours, Lowry Beer Garden and most recently the Costa Rica Retreat! I have met so many great people that have inspired me every single day.

If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you. Endorphin has done just that for me. I am stronger and a better athlete through Endorphin. My most recent accomplishment, qualifying and running the Boston Marathon with a PR, couldn’t have been possible without all those classes and ass-kicking workouts from some of the greatest instructors the fitness community has ever known. Although I haven’t mentioned many instructors that have continued to influence me and push me. Please know I am thankful for what you all do, and the community this gym has provided. If I haven’t been to your class yet, I look forward to a workout with you in the future!

Set a goal so BIG that you can’t achieve it UNTIL you grow into the person who can.
